Course Aim

The course will benefit anyone in a work environment as it provides candidates with an understanding of health and safety that will enable them to contribute to any risk assessment based health and safety management system.

Part 1 – Introduction to Health and Safety at Work

Objectives

By the end of the programme, the candidate will be able to understand: -

  • Health and safety requirements placed on employers and employees
  • Hazard and risk, and the main causes of harm to workers
  • Health, safety and welfare provisions in the workplace
  • The importance of following safe systems of work, procedures and rules
  • Hazards and controls in respect of both safety and occupational health risks
  • How their actions can reduce risk to health and safety

Examination Information

There is a short multi-choice test at the end of the course. Candidates are required to correctly answer 20 out of 30 questions in order to achieve a Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Foundation Certificate in Health and Safety in the Workplace.
